Vivaldi's most famous and greatest number of concertos were written for his own instrument, the violin. But he also wrote many rarely heard works featuring a variety of stringed instruments. This program will open your ears to a new world of sounds and textures, with concertos featuring plucked melody instruments (guitar and mandolin) and the strangely beautiful viola d'amore with its hidden sympathetic strings. Monica's solo violin concerto features alternated tuning, or scordatura, to imitate the sound of the ancient lyre.
