Description

From July 16 until August 1, a cohort of four local artist groups and two individual artists will exhibit their work and respective missions in the Chessman Gallery at the Lincoln City Cultural Center (LCCC).

This show will be different from the usual displays in that it will feature information and examples of the classes, support and knowledge that these artists provide to each other and to the public-at-large. While most of the artists have created and sold their art in different venues, they also share a common vision to share their art -- not unlike the Cultural Center itself as a center for the education of all ages , offering classes in art, dance music literature and theater.

Who are these entities and what do they represent?

The Artists' Studio Association (ASA) --- a Lincoln City institution whose artists and instructors have provided locals and visitors with free or low cost art classes, workshops, open studios and art shows for almost 70 years. ASA owns the building at 620 NE Hwy 101 where they currently are hosting a summer series of art workshops.

The Oregon Coast Mosaic Artists' Guild (OCMAG) – a 2 year young group of mosaicists who meet monthly to support each others' interest in this versatile art form. OCMAG is an affiliate of ASA and recently completed a mosaic mural in the ASA classroom. They host a weekly free open studio in the same space and its volunteers have taught mosaics to local children's groups for the last 2 summers.

The A.R.T.S in Fiber A.R.T.S. stands for Artists, Radicals, Teachers, and Students. It is a fledgling group of knitters, crocheters, sewers, stitchers, yarn spinners, needle felters, weavers, rug hookers, and fiber artists from far and wide. The group meets 3 times a month at Wildwoman Creations in Depoe Bay to share their interest and enthusiasm for the medium. Everyone is still a newcomer and all are welcome.

The North Lincoln Agate Society an artisan group with national connections whose permanent home is downstairs in the Lincoln City Cultural Center. From this location they generously offer lessons, exhibits and demonstrations. Interested parties who come to visit can observe the tumbling, slicing and polishing of all manner of agates, rocks and even, gemstones.

The Knothole Lutherie Shop, aka John McCloud – a one man guitar luthier operation whose permanent home is also at the Cultural Center. After almost 20 years of constantly learning and honing his skills John generously shares his personally therapeutic space and wealth of experience with observers and visitors – sometimes for for hours on end. He is part way on his journey to making 22 guitars.

Lastly, Jim Derham – local Drift-A-Long artist who creates wind chimes from found beach treasures and recycled materials. He often personalizes his unique art pieces and has offered classes as a family oriented activity at the Cultural Center. His work can also be found at the Sunday Market at the LCCC and in coastal gift shops.
